So many hunts! So little time! How's a person to choose? Well, I recently did the SL Discovery Great Toque Hunt (which is on right now and continues through January 21), and while we know that every hunt has plenty of gifts for women, I thought I'd share some pictures of just a few of the goodies for men that can be had from the SLDGTH.

New to treasure hunting on SL? Each hunt is a little different and plays by its own rules, but generally it involves a number of inworld stores that offer a special gift for you completely for free! The catch is that the gift is hidden in a particular hunt object which must be searched for and found before you can grab it into your inventory. In most cases, all you need is the starting location and then each shop will lead to the next.

The SL Discovery Great Toque Hunt features some of the finest designers from all around the grid. These are talented artists who make their own products and have made their hunt gifts especially for this hunt. In most cases, finding the hunt object (a brown toque hat) is the only way you can get these items.

Photo-Op on SLDiscovery.com is a semi-regular feature that puts the spotlight on a Second Life spot that makes for a cool place at which to take photos inworld. Not an entire sim, not even a complete parcel, but just a single specific location - a spot.

Flickr members: join the SL Discovery Photo-Op group and add your pictures taken at Photo-Op spots to the group pool.

12/28/09 Edit: It seems the light beams were only in place as holiday decoration and now that the big holiday is over, the light beams have been removed and the middle window is a doorway to a balcony. There are some mosaic windows on the lower level with light beams, but they are shorter and don't reach down to avatar level. If I'd known they were going to be that short-lived, this article wouldn't have been written, so...sorry! This area still offers other photo opportunities, so you might want to drop by and explore a little anyway.

The new Zara sim for (the previously blogged) Mystic Hope Designs shop has enough delightful builds to keep you and your inworld camera busy for many, many happy hours. Right now, let's look at just one of those spots and see what magic we can make happen. Here at 108/76, up the stairs on a level just above the lucky chairs, the magic has already begun and is just waiting for you to step into the spotlight

In this case, the "spotlight" is a series of light beams that stream through a trio of windows of multi-colored mosaic glass. The windows and beams are quite colorful, and they also have a degree of Glow which, at certain camera angles, will interact with the colors in unpredictable ways.

Choose a special avatar to wear here; it's an etherical, dreamlike environment once you (or your model) move into the beams. I recommend wearing white, which picks up and plays with all the many colors there are to be found.

Aim your camera from the left, from the right, from above and from below. You can also swing your camera around to the outdoors and shoot through the window glass. Some Windlight settings will give strong variety. And of course, you can play with the images afterward in your paint program as well.

Oh the lights, oh the colors, oh that lovely glow!
