Photo-Op on SLDiscovery.com is a semi-regular feature that puts the spotlight on a Second Life spot that makes for a cool place at which to take photos inworld. Not an entire sim, not even a complete parcel, but just a single specific location - a spot.

Autumn and harvest season is quickly arriving around the grid with dried corn stalks and patches of squash showing up here... there... and... in a little sim called Onyx Noir. You may have even visited this location recently as Onyx Noir is host to several stores which are participating in current hunts including SLD Dr. Suess and Twisted, among others. But when you dropped by to grab a striped hat or purple cube, did you notice the windmill? Did you see the pumpkin patch at its base? This windmill and pumpkins scene at 105/139 doesn't take a lot of space or scream for attention, but it does offer us a timely picture-making opportunity. Put on your favorite autumn outfit and teleport over!

If you have an emoter (or posing) HUD, be sure to have it active before you arrive. This is a no-scripts area, so it may or not work for you. My AO continued to function okay, but sadly, I wasn't able to break into a smile.

I started shooting from a distance to capture the full scenic ambiance and then got progressively closer. The yellowing field grass in the area has a distinct charm, and there are pleasant trees in the area for background fill. Viewing angles will be tight. You may need to do some creative cropping or postwork cover-ups of the many nearby goods on display for sale, but that's all part of the photographic challenge.

When your shots have ventured close enough, hop onto one of the pumpkins. Oh yes, many of them have sitting and reclining positions just waiting for you and your camera. What story will your pictures tell of those lonely hours in the pumpkin patch spent waiting for The Great Pumpkin to arrive?
Although I tried a few windlight shots, none of them were saved. The autumnal colors of this scene are just so attractive, I snapped all my pictures with "natural" lighting, and most of them were actually taken during the region's nighttime.
My final image is heavily treated and even so, I retained the essence of the scene's original coloration. There's something aesthetically enchanting about this combination of the yellow-green grass, the orange and yellow squash, the weathered timber of the windmill.
And now it's your turn! Dress to the autumnal nines, hightail it over to Onyx Noir and see what kind of magic imagery you can create with a little help from this windmill and its giant pumpkins. What a great way to welcome the autumn season!
