The Scene That SLDICR Built

Posted by: Silverr Andel

"SLDICR" - It might be hard to pronounce that way, but the jumble of letters stands for the SL Discovery I Can Read hunt, which is going on now and continues to June 10. Even though my own time is very tight currently, I was able to do this hunt in just a few hours over a couple days. There are only 40 shops, so it's quick to complete. And the gifts are frankly wonderful! So many of them seemed designed to work together that I couldn't resist building an entire scene with them. (Get a larger view of any picture by clicking through to Flickr and selecting the "all sizes" option.)

The scene begins with the Japanese Mountain House from Mollyworld, a tri-level building with three porch areas, working doors, and (at only 19 prims) lots of decorating possibility. Fairy Pearls offered a magical place to sit and read near a happy gnome/dwarf; I put this on the lower porch area, but it would work equally as well on the grass under a tree.

To complete the lawn area, I put out the wrought iron "welcome" sign with daffodils from Garden Oasis, then added the fairy ring mushroom patch and the garden cart with tea roses that come from Evaki and Seasonal Creations.

There's more room on the larger middle porch, so this is where I put the cubed topiary (which I planted into a simple vase) and special books for reading while lounging (both of which have animations). I also installed the delightful bird feeder which comes with two sparrows and pleasant nature sounds that bring life to the scene. These items are thanks to Tree House Treasures, So Berry Licious, DethGrip and IntimateLife.

I furnished the main living area with thanks to A.D. Designs, Abundantia, Flowers by Sylvie, Fur Your Home, ADD, Gairdin na Sidhe, Special Jewell, and Icarus Video and Lighting. The goodies here include a photograph-displaying room divider (which I easily filled with some favorite snapshots by dragging them from Inventory), a timeless design wall sconce lamp, and a hickory desk with chair and bookcase set. The desk was the ideal place to set a rose in a bud vase, an ink well with plumb, and a leather-bound book (with another rose) that tells a story. On the walls, I hung the close-up of a flower and the paired treefrog posters. (*Oops, the cool treefrog posters were hanging on the opposite wall and aren't shown in these pics.)

Finally, on the upper level (where you can see out, but they can't see in), I placed the li'l ones reading chair from Twiple Twouble, where The Kid became engrossed in reading the story immediately, not even caring about the great view from up here. Troubled Rebel gave us a "pretty flowerz" window box that settled in nicely on the upper porch along with the heart-shaped pool with flowers from Jeanne'Store.

There are many more gifts to be had, including clothing, accessories and "invisible" things like gestures. Speaking of fashion, guys have not been forgotten; I'm wearing clothing from the hunt in these pictures, and I'll have some more details about them in my next post. Meanwhile, you might as well get going and hunt down the SLDiscovery books! Here's your taxi to the starting shop, and keep the hints page open as you go.
Happy hunting!
